This is normally an easy paddle, but as with any river, water depth can change drastically. These fluctuations can lead to exposed rapids and shallow areas in times of low water. The left (west) side of the river has deeper water and is the best choice when water levels are low.
From the launch, head downstream (north). Just upstream of the launch is Jamestown Falls. If you paddle towards the falls, beware of strong and variable currents near the falls. At 0.5-miles you will reach an unnamed island. At approximately 1.1-miles, there is a boulder strewn stretch of water that can be the biggest challenge on this stretch if paddled at low water levels. At 1.6-miles, you will reach Carry Falls Reservoir. The launch is 0.7-miles NNW ahead. This last stretch can become rough with a west wind.
