The Yellow Lake Overlook Trail (red markers) begins at the bridge on Chisholm Road, crosses a small field, and then leads northward 1.4 miles through a mixed forest of northern hardwoods and red oak. This trail follows dirt roadbeds and narrow forest paths. The trail ends at two scenic overlooks atop steep cliffs on the southeast shore of Yellow Lake.
An unmaintained foot trail departs the Overlook Trail, continuing past the turn to the second overlook. This primitive trail travels just over 0.5 miles to the edge of an open wetland where it ends.
A third trail, the River Access Trail, departs the parking area and follows an unpaved woods road for a little under 0.5 miles to a secluded spot on the banks of the Oswegatchie River.
These trails are part of the Yellow Lake State Forest and are managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Yellow Lake State Forest is a 751-acre public forest sandwiched between Yellow Lake and the Oswegatchie River.
