A very easy paddle for all ages. This pond is well suited for kayaks and canoes. There is no current and it is well sheltered from the wind, offering smooth water. This small pond is a great place for a beginner to learn paddling skills. Nick’s Pond is in the Cranberry Lake Wild Forest.
From the unimproved launch, it is approximately 0.8 miles around the pond, following the shore line. There is plenty of beaver activity to explore as well as many other natural features. This little pond really stands out in the autumn with the foliage change. It’s pretty easy to paddle well over a mile here exploring all the little nooks & crannies. Ducks, geese and other wetland birds are commonly seen on Nicks Pond. The state also stocks this pond with trout.
From NYS 3 in the town of Clifton, turn onto the Inlet Road. Follow this road approximately 1.6 miles. The trailhead parking is on the right side of the road, the pond on the left. There is only room for one or two vehicles in the unimproved parking area, otherwise park roadside. The trail to the pond may or may not be marked with a sign. There is a carry of about 100 yards to the water.
